Pundit slates Dele Alli after Tottenham source shares behind-the-scenes reveal

Noel Whelan has slammed Dele Alli for a lack of consistency as the midfielder continues to struggle at Tottenham.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the 25-year-old’s form has nosedived in recent seasons.

A Tottenham source has revealed to Football Insider (28th September) the midfielder is “difficult to manage” behind the scenes and an “inconsistent trainer”.

Alli burst onto the scene in English football immediately after his switch from MK Dons to Tottenham.

He scored 10 goals in 33 Premier League appearances in his first season and has notched a total of 66 goals in 260 games for the club across all competitions.

Whelan reminisced about the brilliance of Alli in his first seasons with Spurs but bemoaned his current lack of consistency.

“There’s no doubt that in the past two years he’s not been the Dele Alli that we saw when he first came to Tottenham,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He was very much involved with everything that was good about Tottenham with his goals and the way he controlled that midfield area with his energy.

“Then all of a sudden it changed and over the last two and a half years he hasn’t quite been that fixed, permanent player in the Tottenham side.

“We’ve seen little flashes of him, but not consistently enough.”

Alli has played 37 times for his country, scoring three – including a memorable World Cup quarter-final header in 2018.

The midfielder has failed to impress despite starting every league game for Spurs this season.

In other news, insider believes this is the reason Eric Dier hasn’t been dropped.
