Tottenham idol fumes over 'joke' incident at Arsenal as footage emerges

Paul Robinson has slammed the inconsistency of VAR this season after what he has saw happen to Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England shot-stopper claimed “it’s a joke” how Ben White’s challenge on Harry Kane went unpunished in Sunday’s north London derby.

White appeared to trip Kane just inside the area in the second half of Tottenham’s 3-1 defeat at the Emirates.

Referee Craig Pawson adjudged that there was not enough in it to award Spurs a penalty and Stuart Attwell, who was on VAR duty, concurred.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday morning, ex-ref Dermot Gallagher admitted he “wouldn’t have been surprised” if a penalty was given.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the incident, Robinson said: “It was a definite penalty. 100 per cent.

“How that has not been given I do not know. It is a joke.

“We have praised VAR this year because it is not being used as much as last season, when it was overused.

“But, there are times when it needs to be used. It is there for a reason at the end of the day.

“There have been a few decisions this season that have been ignored. It has been more lenient this season which is a good thing but it has been to the detriment of some games.

“White’s foul on Kane was an example of that.”
