Swansea City, West Brom and Plymouth Argyle in talks to sign Josh Key - sources

Swansea City, West Brom and Plymouth Argyle are in talks to sign Exeter defender Josh Key, sources have told Football Insider.

The highly-rated 23-year-old is out of contract at Exeter later this month and is set to move on.

Swansea have made an undisclosed bid for Key and are prepared to go to tribunal if need be, while West Brom and Plymouth are both trying to find an agreement with Exeter.

Key made 48 appearances for Exeter this season and netted four goals and offered up two assists in those outings.

The defender was in the starting lineup for 38 of his 42 League One appearances in a campaign where they finished 14th with 56 points and only one win in their final five matches.

Key was also part of the Exeter side that won promotion to League One in the 2021-22 season.

Speak to EFL Debate (12 June), manager Gary Caldwell was full of praise for the defender who he described as a “fantastic player” for the club.

The right-back came through the academy at Exeter and spent just one season away from the club in 2018-19 during a loan spell at non-league side Tiverton Town.

Newly promoted Plymouth are looking for reinforcements to make their mark on the English second tier next season whilst West Brom and Swansea are hoping to climb up the Championship table after respectable ninth and tenth placed finishes respectively.
