Odin Thiago Holm exposed as Celtic struggles brought to light - expert

Brendan Rodgers’ lack of depth in his Celtic squad has been exposed after their defeat to Feyenoord.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie is hopeful that the players how were thrown in at the deep end for Tuesday’s (19 September) loss to the Dutch club will learn from the experience.

The Glasgow giants were reduced to nine men as they were beaten 2-0 by Feyenoord in the opening match of their Champions League campaign.

As shown on TNT Sports (19 September), Odin Thiago Holm was shown a straight red card just ten minutes after being subbed on for his European top flight debut.

McAvennie said the result highlights some of the problems within the club.

I think it just shows you the lack of depth,” he told Football Insider.

I think Holm is a wonderful talent and will be a great player, they have got some wonderful talent but at this moment in time I do not think they are ready for the Champions League, Rodgers was just forced to play them because of the injuries.

I am not going to blame him for the sending off because he is young and he has never played in the Champions League before. You won’t get away with that in the Champions League but he will learn from it.

The Hoops welcome Lazio to Parkhead for match day two of the European competition on 4 October before Atletico Madrid make the trip to Scotland for the third round.
