Leeds drop Carlos Corberan hint after approach made

West Brom head coach Carlos Corberan is on the shortlist at Leeds United as they search for their next boss, sources have told Football Insider.

The Whites confirmed on Friday (2 June) that manager Sam Allardyce will not see his contract renewed after taking charge of the final four games of the season.

As part of the club statement, Leeds revealed they will now start their search for a new head coach – a hint they will not move for another traditional manager figure like Allardyce.

It is believed the appointment of Corberan is seen as ideal by club chiefs if the Yorkshire side want to undertake a long-term project.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (3 June) that West Brom are braced for an approach from Leeds for their boss.

His long-term future at The Hawthorns has been thrown into doubt amid a backdrop of financial issues at the club.

Corberan knocked back advances from Leeds following the sacking of Jesse Marsch earlier this year, instead deciding to sign a new and improved West Brom deal running until 2027.

He only took charge of the Baggies in October 2022, and won 16 of a possible 30 league games to steer the Midlands side to an eighth-place finish.

The Spaniard previously worked as a coach at Leeds alongside Marcelo Bielsa following an impressive stint with the Whites’ Under-23 side.

Sources told Football Insider on Saturday (3 June) that Leeds have also shortlisted Blackburn Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson in the search for their next manager.

A well-placed Whites source has told this site that he is increasingly seen as “the next Bielsa” by those inside the club.

In other news, star man could now agree Leeds loan deal.
