Sources: Nottingham Forest open talks to sign Marcondes as they close in on West Brom target

Nottingham Forest have opened talks to sign Emiliano Marcondes after his Brentford exit, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Danish midfielder, 26, was one of three players, with Henrik Dalsgaard and Luke Daniels, released by the Bees ahead of their contracts expiring yesterday.

A Forest source has told Football Insider that the club are closing in on the capture of Marcondes on a free transfer.

The former Denmark Under-21 international has also attracted interest from Barnsley and West Brom.

Nottingham Forest are looking to revamp their squad after finishing in a disappointing 17th last term.

Senior players Michael Dawson and Glenn Murray, both 37, hung up their boots at the end of last season.

Sammy Ameobi, Yuri Ribeiro and Samba Sow meanwhile were all named on the club’s released list on 2nd June.

Marcondes featured 40 times for recently-promoted Brentford in the 2020-21 campaign, though just 12 of those appearances were league starts.

Those appearances yielded three goals and took his overall tally in Brentford colours to seven in 97 matches.

A dextrous midfield operator, the Dane is accomplished as either an attacking midfielder or in a more withdrawn role.

He was also occasionally deployed on the left wing by Bees boss Thomas Frank.

Brentford, a side whose connections with Marcondes’ home country are well-documented, signed him from Danish Superliga side FC Nordsjaelland in 2017.

He spent the second half of the 2019-20 campaign on loan FC Midtjylland and helped them secure the Danish league title.

West Brom meanwhile have, as revealed by this site yesterday (30th June), reached an agreement to sign 26-year-old midfielder Alex Mowatt.
