West Brom can seal 'very smart' Marcondes signing as midfielder deal agreed - Robinson

Paul Robinson has claimed West Brom would be making “a very smart signing” if they added Emiliano Marcondes to their ranks.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one claimed the 26-year-old’s experience of gaining promotion with Brentford last season would be beneficial to Albion.

Marcondes became a free agent today upon the expiration of his contract with the Bees.

According to The Express (30th June), Baggies boss Valerien Ismael could add some extra firepower to his side in the form of the Brentford attacker.

It is said that Ismael was spearheading Barnsley’s pursuit of Marcondes earlier this month before his appointment at The Hawthorns.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the potential move, Robinson said: “On a free, he would be a very smart signing.

West Brom have the structure right for the Championship. Ismael knows how to get the best out of his players and he knows the league.

“Marcondes is a player with a decent amount of Championship experience and he understands how to get out of the Championship, we saw that last season with Brentford.

“Signing a player like that would be a wise move from West Brom.”

Marcondes was a bit-part player for Brentford last season and contributed three goals and three assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.

As revealed by Football Insider yesterday (30 June), Albion have already agreed to sign Alex Mowatt on a free after he ran down his contract at Barnsley.
