Campbell: West Brom could seal 'big coup' in Longstaff signing after reported update

Kevin Campbell has claimed it would be a “big coup” if West Brom can sign Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Albion and Arsenal striker claimed the 21-year-old would be a “great addition” to Valerien Ismael’s squad.

Longstaff has struggled for game time at St. James’ Park since he put pen to paper on a new two-year contract extension last August.

According to Chronicle Live, both the player’s representatives and Steve Bruce believe the centre-midfielder needs to play regular first team football next season.

Anderlecht, Norwich City, Middlesbrough and West Brom are all said to be interested in taking Longstaff on loan for a year.

Campbell fears there will also be stiff competition from a number of Premier League club’s for his signature.

“To West Brom? Wow, I’d be impressed if they could get that deal done,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“He would be a great addition but I’m sure there will be Premier League club interested as well. He is a talented young player with a big future ahead of him.

“I am surprised Newcastle won’t keep him and play him. I would be surprised if they let him leave to be honest.

“Whenever he has got some minutes he has looked very capable. He looks like a Premier League player. It would be a big coup if West Brom can sign him.”
