'Something's not right' with Antonio after West Ham club doctor update - pundit

West Ham star Michail Antonio should not join up with future Jamaica squads unless he is fully recovered from his hamstring issues.

So says ex-Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 30-year-old Irons striker.

The Sun reported on 18 October that West Ham club doctor Richard Collinge travelled with Antonio to the Caribbean in September.

It is claimed that Collinge was sent to monitor Antonio’s fragile hamstrings and will do so again when he is next called up by Jamaica.

Antonio made his debut for the Reggae Boys in September but declined to join up for the recent October international break, citing logistical issues.

Kenny argues that the centre-forward should not risk exacerbating his pre-existing hamstring issues away from West Ham.

“If he is struggling at all, he shouldn’t be going away,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“He should be staying in London until he is fully, 100 per cent fit. The last thing you need is to go on international duty and make your hamstring worse.

“By sending the doctor with him, they have shown have much they value him. But if he’s that valuable, surely he needs to stay here and rest up.

“Travelling here, there and everywhere and then training and playing international matches is strange if he wants to stay fit.

“The fact that they’ve gone to those measures tells me there’s something not quite right.”
