West Ham in line to seal 'top quality' signings after 'important' training ground update - pundit
Noel Whelan has suggested a new training ground should help West Ham attract “top quality” players in the transfer window.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted having “state of the art” facilities is vital to lure the best talent to the club.
As reported by the Romford Recorder (14th October), West Ham have been given planning permission to construct a new training ground at their Rush Green site.
Work on the development will reportedly commence next month, with a completion date of September 2022.
The proposal will see the men’s facilities revamped and a standalone structure constructed for the women’s side.
Plans had originally been tabled back in 2018 but the approval lapsed without work starting due to Covid-19.
Whelan insisted having an up to date training ground is vitally important for any football club.
He suggested the work would help West Ham lure “better players” to east London.
“That’s how you’re going to attract better players,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“It’s more attractive when you’ve got a brand new training ground, all the state of the art of facilities. You can attract better players.
“You need this state of the art training ground. I know how important it is.
“If you’re going to attract players and top quality players, you can’t be taking them into a lesser standard of training ground.”
Rush Green is the site of the Hammers’ senior training ground.
Meanwhile, Chadwell Heath and Little Heath are used by the academy and ladies’ team.
Kurt Zouma, Nikola Vlasic, Alex Kral, Craig Dawson and Alphonse Areola were the Hammers’ first-team signings this summer.
