West Ham set for 'huge boost' as major Rush Green development reported - pundit
Noel Whelan has hailed the West Ham board after plans for a new training ground at Rush Green were approved by local authorities.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted state of the art facilities would be a “huge boost” for the Irons.
As reported by the Romford Recorder (14th October), Havering Council have given the green light for work to begin at Rush Green.
Permission was initially granted in 2018 but the impact of Covid-19 meant plans were postponed and the planning application lapsed.
Work on the development is set to get underway in November with a completion date of September 2022.
Whelan praised the board of David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady (GSB) for “putting their money out there”.
“I think they understand now they’re growing a fantastic, competing team in the Premier League,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“They are now there in Europe. They’re not standing still, they keep on moving forward and progressing.
“Yes, they’re putting their money out there but they know they’ll get it back. You can ask more money if they do ever come to sell the club.
“Right now, it’s a huge boost to have everything in one place, a training ground that is top-notch.
“Everything will be there: medical, training, fitness, the whole works because it’s a big business, football. You’ve got to look after your commodities which are the players.
“They will feel the benefits of having a state of the art, new complex you work in every day.
“You play the games at the stadium but you’re at the training ground every day.”
