West Ham transfer news: Aaron Cresswell update after deal collapses - sources

Aaron Cresswell is being integrated back into the West Ham squad after talks over a late-window move to Wolves collapsed, sources have told Football Insider.

The left-back, 33, came close to ending his nine-year spell at the London Stadium this summer and leaving for the club’s Premier League rivals.

Wolves pushed hard for a deal as they looked to recruit a left-sided defender capable of slotting in at both left-back and in central defence.

The Midlands outfit had a £2.5million offer for Cresswell rejected earlier in the window by the London club, who held out for their £4m asking price to be met.

It is believed that Cresswell had agreed terms with Wolves and was keen for the deal to go through.

At one point, with discussions especially tense, he was frozen out of the West Ham senior squad and instructed to train alone.

However, the two clubs could not agree on a price and it means that the defender is now set to stay until January at least and potentially until his contract expires at the end of the season.

The three-time England international has not had a minute of senior action this season, although he did make the bench for the last three West Ham Premier League matches after being omitted from the squad for the opening day clash against Bournemouth.

Cresswell played in a behind-the-scenes friendly against Ipswich Town on Thursday night and scored a free-kick in the match, which ended 1-1.

The experienced defender was joined in the side by Lukasz Fabianski, Danny Ings and free agent Jesse Lingard.

Cresswell made 38 appearances totalling more than 2800 minutes of football in the 2022-23 campaign, notching three assists.

He remained David Moyes’ preferred option at left-back for most of the campaign despite the signing of Emerson Palmieri last summer (2022), and helped West Ham lift the Europa Conference League.

He has racked up 331 appearances for the Irons since joining from Ipswich in 2014 – with 283 of those outings coming in the Premier League.
