Sources: Major Tomas Soucek update after new West Ham talks

Talks between West Ham and midfielder Tomas Soucek over a new contract have stalled in the last year, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old has been linked with Italian giants Inter Milan in recent days.

Soucek is currently out of contract at West Ham at the end of the 2023-24 campaign – although the London club have the option to extend his stay a further 12 months.

It is believed the Irons are keen to keep the Czech Republic international at the club and have held talks over a new deal.

But those discussions have stalled – opening the door to potential suitors, including Inter.

Soucek remains a key part of the West Ham side following the departure of Declan Rice in the summer window.

He has already made 10 appearances in the 2023-24 campaign, notching four goals and one assist.

The former Slavia Prague star has started all but one of West Ham’s Premier League fixtures as they sit seventh in the table.

He was a key part of the Irons side which lifted the Europa Conference League last term – notching three goals and six assists in 50 appearances across all competitions.

Soucek joined West Ham on an initial January 2020 and has racked up 165 appearances for the club.

The combative midfielder, who cost the Londoners a reported total fee of £19million, has notched 26 goals and nine assists during his time at the London Stadium.

West Ham have recently moved to tie talisman Jarrod Bowen down to a new contract running until 2030.

Vladimir Coufal, Michail Antonio, Lukasz Fabianski, Angelo Ogbonna are among the other Irons stars out of contract at the end of this season.

In other news, West Ham could accept £25m offer for star man.
