Kieran Maguire: Bournemouth set for transfer boost as talks open over Hibernian deal
Bournemouth can use their new relationship with Scottish side Hibernian to improve player development and training methods.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the perks of multi-club ownership for Premier League clubs.
As reported by the BBC, Cherries owner Bill Foley is looking to buy a stake in Scottish Premiership side Hibernian.
The American businessman has had an interest in the Edinburgh club for months and initial talks have now been held.
It is understood that the deal will not grant Foley full control of the club, but he is interested in referring players from both Hibs and Bournemouth to other teams in his multi-club network.
It would add Bournemouth to a growing list of top-flight clubs involved in multi-club networks, including Chelsea’s BlueCo group and Manchester City’s City Football Group.
Maguire believes American owners in particular are seeing the benefits of multi-club models.
“Multi-club ownership is becoming the way forwards in football, especially with American-based owners,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“They see both the revenue and the cost synergies in the MCO model and the ability to have consistency across all of the clubs.
“That then makes it easier to transfer players and also to use some clubs as holding areas.
“I’m sure that Hibs fans will hate the thought of them being a feeder club to Bournemouth, and there’s no evidence that that is the case by the way.
“But by doing this Bournemouth will get more consistency in training methods, sports and science data, diet and so on.
“You can put players out on loan from one club to the other which is going to help their development.
“They can then come back to the other club having experienced a similar but not identical training regime.“
