Sources: Tottenham plot new Lloyd Kelly move after £20m bid submitted

Tottenham are planning a new move for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly after failing to land him during the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Cherries rejected a late Spurs £20million bid for the 25-year-old as they did not have adequate time to find a replacement.

Bournemouth want to keep the defender past the January window as they know he could be key to their chances of staying in the Premier League.

But Kelly is in huge demand as his contract on the south coast runs down.

His deal is currently set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 campaign, and Spurs are set to go up against Liverpool and other European sides in the race for his signature.

The ex-Bristol City man is in a good position to land a big-money contract due to his contract situation.

As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (6 November), Spurs are keen to sign a centre-back and defensive midfielder in the January transfer window.

Those plans have not been altered following Micky van de Ven’s serious hamstring injury – which he sustained in the 4-1 defeat against Chelsea.

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed the Netherlands international is likely to be out of action until the new year in what amounts to a devastating blow for Spurs given his importance to the team.

Kelly has made eight appearances across all competitions this season with a series of injuries limiting his availability.

He wore the captain’s armband in Bournemouth’s two most recent Premier League fixtures.

The ex-England Under-21 international joined the Cherries in 2019 for a reported £13million and has gone on to make 124 appearances for the south coast side.
