Exclusive: Senior Rangers stars rage at party four in for 'big shock' as one named

Senior Rangers players are furious behind the scenes after four of their teammates were allegedly broke Covid-19 rules, Football Insider understands.

This site broke the news on Sunday Rangers had launched an internal probe into the lockdown rule breach, which was confirmed by the Gers later that evening.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider the rest of the dressing room have taken a dim view of their teammates’ actions and warned them they had put the entire season at risk.

Steven Gerrard is understood to have been “apoplectic” when told the quartet of players, which is believed to include Calvin Bassey, had attended a party in the west end of Glasgow on Saturday night.

It is the second high-profile breach of lockdown protocols at Rangers after Jordan Jones and George Edmundson were caught attending a party earlier in the season.

The duo have since been shipped out on loan to Sunderland and Derby County respectively.

A Rangers source has told Football Insider the senior players at Ibrox were left livid with the latest breach and admitted one positive case could have brought their season crashing down.

The source went on: “They’re disappointed. The older heads within the squad are saying: ‘You need to see the bigger picture here, all it takes is for you to pick the virus up and pass it on to everybody and then you’ve wrecked the whole season.’

“They have their head in their hands, they understand what they’ve done now and it’s going to be a big shock to them.”

Rangers are understood to be considering suspending the four rule-breakers for the rest of the season.

Jones and Edmundson were both suspended by the club and handed seven-game bans by the SFA for their breach last autumn.
