Exclusive: Cardiff City make approach for Sheffield Wednesday ace Rhodes

Cardiff City have made an approach to sign Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline, Football Insider understands.

The Bluebirds are in the market for a new centre-forward this month as Mick McCarthy looks to take the load of Kieffer Moore’s shoulders for the second half of the season.

A recruitment source told Football Insider Cardiff have made an enquiry for Rhodes, 30, and are waiting for a response from Wednesday.

The Scotland international has struggled for starts at Hillsborough this term but it remains to be seen whether the Owls would be willing to sell to a Championship rival.

Cardiff have struggled for form since December and have picked up just one win in their last eight league games.

Their poor run coincided with an injury for top scorer Moore, with the 28-year-old ruled out for four matches over the festive period.

The summer signing, who joined the Bluebirds from Wigan Athletic, has netted nine times in 21 league games, while fellow hitman Robert Glatzel has scored three goals so far.

Meanwhile, Rhodes has been limited to just three starts in 14 Championship at Wednesday and scored his only goal on the opening day of the season against Cardiff.

McCarthy is now hoping to strike a deal for the 14-cap international in a bid to boost his squad’s attacking prowess.

Rhodes has scored 104 times in 309 Championship appearances, although he last hit double digits in the 2015/16 campaign with Blackburn Rovers.

In other news, a Cardiff City star is in high demand ahead of Monday’s deadline.
