Medical underway: Luton Town agree to sign international from Bristol City - Exclusive

Bristol City midfielder Joe Morrell is undergoing a medical at Luton Town ahead of a permanent transfer, Football Insider understands.

The 23-year-old has not featured at all for the Robins since the start of the 2020/21 season and is now set to move across the Championship to join Nathan Jones’ men.

A source at Kenilworth Road has told Football Insider that the two clubs have agreed transfer terms and that the Wales star is undergoing a medical after he returned from international duty.

Morrell played the full 90 minutes for Wales against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday but has been allowed to leave the squad by Ryan Giggs as he is suspended for Wednesday’s clash with Bulgaria.

It is understood the Ipswich-born central midfielder is having his medical with Luton ahead of a permanent switch between the two Championship sides.

A graduate of the Bristol City academy, Morrell has played just six times for the club but has picked up first-team experience during loan spells with Cheltenham Town and Lincoln City.

He spent the whole of last season with the Imps and made 32 appearances, 29 of which came among the starting XI in League One.

The nine-cap international is now set to join a Luton side who currently sit fifth in the Championship after three wins and a defeat in their opening games of the season.

The Hatters scraped their way to survival last term and finished 19th in what was their first campaign back in the second tier of English football since 2007.
