Exclusive: Barnsley agree deal to sign MK Dons 22-year-old

Barnsley have agreed a deal to sign defender Callum Brittain from MK Dons, Football Insider understands.

The 22-year-old was out of contract at the Stadium MK this summer but re-signed for the League One side back in August after he was offered new terms.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Championship side Barnsley have now agreed transfer terms with the Dons to sign the versatile right-back ahead of next week’s domestic transfer deadline.

The Bedford-born star has established himself as one of the brightest young players in the English Football League, with over 100 club appearances under his belt to date.

He made his league debut for MK Dons back in January 2017 and went on to play five more times in League One before the end of the 2017/17 campaign.

He established himself as a regular among the senior side during the 2017/18 season, in which the Dons were relegated, as he played 33 times in a variety of defensive and midfield roles.

After helping the club bounce back to League One at the first attempt, he missed just four league games last term as Russell Martin’s side finished 19th.

He initially left the club when his contract expired in June but was re-signed at the end of August ahead of the new League One campaign.

He has played in all seven of the club’s league and cup games this season, with three starts from a possible four in League One.

However, the Dons have accepted a bid from Barnsley and Brittain will now negotiate personal terms with the Championship side.

In other MK Dons news, the club have agreed to sign a former Derby County star.
