Deal agreed: Winner named in Bournemouth & Reading race to sign Riquelme - Exclusive

Bournemouth have agreed a deal to sign Atletico Madrid winger Rodrigo Riquelme on loan ahead of Reading, Football Insider understands.

The two Championship rivals have been battling for the capture of the 20-year-old ahead of October’s transfer deadline after the La Liga side gave a temporary move the green light ahead.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bournemouth have won the race to take the promising forward on board and that the move should be completed in the coming days.

Riquelme is highly rated at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium after his impressive performances for Atletico’s B team but first-team chances have been difficult to come by due to the quality of talent at Diego Simeone’s disposal.

He made his senior debut as a substitute against Eibar in September 2019, while his only other appearance came from the bench in a defeat to Cultural Leonesa in the Copa Del Rey back in January.

After five goals in 21 games for Atletico B last season, the club have given the young forward permission to leave on loan in a bid to get him regular competitive football and boost his development.

After a fierce transfer battle in the Championship, it is understood that Riquelme is set to become Bournemouth’s first signing of the summer as they look to bounce back from relegation last season.

The Cherries have made an unbeaten start to the new season with two wins and a draw under their belts.

Riquelme looks set to battle with the likes of Arnaut Danjuma, Junior Stanislas and David Brooks for a place on the flanks in Jason Tindall’s side.

In other Bournemouth news, the Cherries are plotting a move to sign a midfielder from Birmingham City for £1million-plus.
