Sources: Tottenham in race to sign Ivan Toney amid new Brentford reveal

Tottenham are set to go head-to-head with Premier League rivals for the signature of Brentford striker Ivan Toney next summer, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal will also be in the hunt for the 27-year-old at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

In the meantime, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Toney is focused on getting back to playing regular football when his gambling ban expires on 16 January.

There will likely be interest in the Brentford man in the mid-season window, but a deal is believed to be hard to do with the Bees set to hold out for in excess of £70million for his services.

Sources say a move in the summer could be best for all parties.

Tottenham and their Premier League rivals are in need of a prolific striker and Toney is seen as fitting the bill following his stellar scoring form in recent years.

However, the England international has not played so far in the 2023-24 season following his eight-month ban which came into effect in May.

Toney returned to training with his team-mates in September and has played in non-competitive fixtures.

He managed 21 goals and five assists in 35 games across all competitions last season – including a best-ever return of 20 strikes in the Premier League.

The ex-Newcastle man’s contract at Brentford is set to expire in June 2025.

Heung-min Son, who has notched eight Premier League goals this season, has assumed the centre-forward role at Tottenham following Harry Kane’s summer departure.

Meanwhile, Man United summer signing Rasmus Hojlund has yet to score a goal in the English top flight and the Red Devils are now believed to be in the market for striking reinforcements.

Arsenal and Chelsea are also in the hunt for more firepower despite big-money spending in recent transfer windows.
