Ex-Premier League referee: Nottingham Forest heading for points deduction with FA probe expected

Keith Hackett has warned Nottingham Forest and Wolves they are “heading towards” points deductions if they are continually involved in on-pitch confrontations.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee insisted he expects the FA to probe an allegation of spitting involving Forest ace Brennan Johnson.

Tempers flared during the 1-1 draw between Nottingham Forest and Wolves on Saturday (1 April) for the third time in clashes between the two sides this season.

Forest defender Felipe sparked a touchline fracas with his challenge on Adama Traore, while Wolves star Daniel Podence was accused of spitting at Brennan Johnson – though VAR found no conclusive evidence.

The two clubs were fined a combined £85,000 for failing to control their players during the League Cup clash in January.

Wolves were also hit with a £57,500 fine for the same offence after ugly scenes in their 4-2 loss against Leeds last month.

Hackett told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “There’s no question that these punishments need to be ramped up now.

“I think what stimulated this particular fracas was the allegation of spitting.

“I must say that the head movement from Podence does indicate that it took place. But I can understand why the VAR couldn’t be 100% sure.

“I’m sure someone will take another look in review, and the appropriate punishment will be handed out.

“But this nonsense of players and staff being out of control – we’re heading towards a time where the outcome will be points deductions.

“These two sides are repeat offenders.

“This is where we’re going. When you look at the position of the two teams, a points deduction would act as a real deterrent for this behaviour.”
