Everton 'should be worried' by catastrophic news - pundit
Everton ‘should be worried’ about their current situation but Sean Dyche is ‘experienced’ enough to save the club.
That is the view of former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the threat of relegation to the Toffees this season.
Everton sit 17th in the Premier League and are avoiding the relegation zone only through goal difference. They are winless in four games following back-to-back defeats against Man United and Fulham.
Prior to that, the Merseyside club fought back with 10 men against Tottenham to rescue a last-minute 1-1 draw.
Off the field, Everton face financial issues with the club reporting losses of £372million across the last three years.
The club are also looking to finance the construction of their new Bramley Moore Dock Stadium, but the looming threat of relegation has made things more difficult.
McManus understands the worry around Goodison Park but believes Dyche has Everton ‘fighting’ for survival and can keep the club up.
“Everton should be worried at the moment, but I think I’d be even more worried if they didn’t have Sean Dyche,” McManus told Football Insider.
“I’ve seen their last couple of performances, and the Tottenham draw stands out to me – they were fantastic.
“They were brilliant – they really pushed the 10 men to get back into the game.
“Dyche has got them fighting for the jersey and the atmosphere was great as well.
“But I would be worried – both about the results on the pitch and the financial issues and board problems off of it.
“But I don’t think they’ll go down, I think they’ve got enough to stay up, and Dyche is experienced and calm in these situations.
“I’d be more worried if they had a rookie at the helm.“
