Pundit makes 'mind-boggling' Frank Lampard claim after 'crazy' Chelsea return

It is ‘mind-boggling’ that Chelsea have re-appointed Frank Lampard as manager just two years after sacking him.

That is the view of former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the ‘crazy’ managerial change at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues sacked Graham Potter last Monday (3 April) after a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa left the club in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Just three days later on Thursday (6 April), Chelsea announced that ex-player and manager Lampard would return to the club in an interim role until the end of the season.

Lampard took charge of his first game since his return on Saturday, with Chelsea losing 1-0 to relegation-threatened Wolves.

McManus believes the Chelsea job is a ‘great opportunity’ for Lampard after his sacking at Everton earlier this year, but is confused by the decision to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.

The Frank Lampard appointment is the latest example of the crazy things happening at Chelsea,” McManus told Football Insider.

They sack him and then take him back a couple of years later, it’s absolutely mind-boggling.

I think he’s just got to get in there and try and get a team together on the pitch.

They’ve got so many good players, but they’ve not got a system.

Frank does know the club well, but I don’t think he’ll know a lot of the current players because a lot of them have changed.

It’s a great opportunity for him after getting sacked at Everton, but I think it’s crazy that Chelsea have turned to him.
