Pundit eviscerates 'crazy' Chelsea board amid £35m claim - 'worst-run club in the world'
Chelsea are ‘crazy’ for paying a total of £33million to only have Graham Potter as manager for less than seven months.
That is the view of former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Chelsea’s decision to sack Potter.
The Blues sacked the 47-year-old on Monday (3 April) following the club’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.
Potter lasted just seven months at Stamford Bridge after joining the club in September from Brighton to replace Thomas Tuchel.
Brighton received £22million in compensation for Potter’s departure, and the Daily Mail have revealed that Chelsea were then forced to pay Potter £13million to leave the club.
Chelsea have slumped to 11th in the table under Potter, who departs the London club with a win rate of just 38.7 per cent after taking charge of 31 games.
McManus believes Chelsea are the ‘worst-run club in the world’ and that blame needs to be directed towards the club’s recruitment team.
“I think Chelsea must be the worst-run club in the world,” McManus told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“They pay £22million compensation to get Potter from Brighton and then five months later sack him and hand him £13million – it’s crazy.
“They signed hundreds of players in the summer and January and had so many players they had to sit on the floor during team talks.
“There is no way Potter was behind all of those signings, I think the finger needs to be pointed at the recruitment team and the board.“
