Pundit makes 'massive' Celtic windfall claim after Kieran Tierney source's reveal

Celtic have a sell-on clause for Kieran Tierney and will hope their former left-back goes for more than £30million this summer.

That is the view of former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Scottish giants will be “disappointed” they didn’t get a cut of a larger fee.

Celtic sold Tierney to Arsenal in 2019 for £25million, and the Scottish left-back made a strong start to life in North London.

However, summer arrival Oleksandr Zinchenko has pushed Tierney down the pecking order at The Emirates and the 25-year-old has seriously struggled for game time under Mikel Arteta.

Football Insider sources revealed early this month (7 March) that Aston Villa and Newcastle United have both joined a £30million race to sign Tierney this summer.

While the majority of that fee would land with Arsenal, Celtic also included a sell-on clause in Tierney’s contract which is worth around 15 per cent, according to The Sun.

McManus believes Celtic will be keeping a keen eye on the Tierney rumours this summer, and insists they would be “massively missing out” if they only received a £4.5million cut.

“Celtic have got a sell-on clause for Tierney as well, so they’ll be keeping a close eye on him this summer,” McManus told Football Insider.

“They’ll be disappointed at a £30million fee as he was worth far more a few seasons ago and at one point they were probably hoping for a cut of a much larger fee for Tierney after his impressive start at Arsenal.

A £25million fee is nothing spectacular in the Premier League nowadays so it’s great business for Aston Villa or Newcastle but Celtic will feel as though they’re massively missing out on a big payday.
