Pundit issues ‘terrible’ Mykhailo Mudryk verdict after what he has seen at Chelsea

Mykhailo Mudryk has looked “terrible” for Chelsea in recent weeks but deserves time after showing “glimpses of ability”.

That is the view of former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Mudryk’s lack of game time at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues signed Ukranian winger Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk for £89million this January despite links to London rivals Arsenal.

The 21-year-old was one of eight new signings at Chelsea over the winter market, and he has struggled to cement a place in Graham Potter’s starting lineup.

He has made six Premier League appearances but failed to complete a full 90-minute match since joining Chelsea, with just 262 minutes of first-team action under his belt.

McManus has backed Mudryk to eventually match the “awesome” performance he put on against Scotland for Ukraine but insists it will take time for him to develop at Chelsea.

“I really hope Graham Potter has not given up on him for the amount of money they spent,” McManus told Football Insider.

From what I’ve seen of him in the playoff game against Scotland and I’ve also seen him against Celtic for Shakhtar, I thought he was awesome – very, very good.

But I’ve seen him a couple of times for Chelsea now and he’s been terrible.

However, I do think they have got to give him a bit of time.

It’s so much money, but he’s still very young.

He’s clearly a very good player and he has looked terrible in recent weeks, but he’s shown glimpses of ability.

He’s playing at a better level against better players now.
