Pundit makes radical West Ham prediction amid new David Moyes sack claim

Tam McManus has backed David Moyes to keep West Ham in the Premier League and win the Europa Conference League this season.

The former Hibernian striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the Scot can only keep his job through good results in league games.

West Ham are 2-0 up on aggregate in their Europa Conference League last-16 clash with AEK Larnaca – with Lazio, Fiorentina and Nice among the biggest sides lying in wait in the next round.

However, in the Premier League – the Irons are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference despite a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Sunday (12 March).

The Londoners were last relegated to the Championship in 2011.

West Ham‘s last European success came in 1999 when they were one of the winners of the Intertoto Cup.

McManus told Football Insider‘s Sean Fisher: “West Ham are struggling in the league just outside the bottom three, but they’re still in Europe, and I think they’ve got a good chance of winning that competition.

The main priority of the board will obviously be staying in the Premier League, and that’s what it comes down to for Moyes.

“I think that’s where he has to perform to keep his job.

“For me, he’s very capable of keeping West Ham in the Premier League and winning the Europa Conference League too.

“He’s proven in the past that he can churn results out and he got them to the latter stages of the Europa League last season.

“This is a slightly easier competition he’s got a real chance of winning, and if it does that, and keeps West Ham up I can tell you for a fact it would be a great season for the club.”
