Pundit suggests retrospective FA action coming against Man United star Bruno Fernandes - 'right now...'
The FA should step in and punish Bruno Fernandes retrospectively after the Man United captain was spotted pushing a linesman.
That is the opinion of former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Fernandes’ antics at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool strolled to a 7-0 victory over arch-rivals Man United on Sunday afternoon, with Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all on the scoresheet.
During the match, United captain Fernandes was pictured pushing the linesman after a coming together with Reds defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.
As reported by the Daily Mail on Monday (6 March), Fernandes is set to avoid punishment for his actions with the incident not appearing in the referee’s report after the match.
McManus believes the FA need to stamp out the behaviour and that VAR potentially “felt sorry” for Man United on the day.
“Bruno Fernandes was very lucky,” McManus told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“I can remember going back to my own career I pushed the referee against Rangers and I got sent off immediately.
“I think he’ll be lucky if he doesn’t get done retrospectively as well.
“I think that the FA surely have to take a look at that – they can’t allow that.
“But even on the pitch he was particularly fortunate that VAR didn’t look at it, as everything seems to be picked up on it at the moment.
“Maybe they felt sorry for Man United at the time I don’t know.
“It looks right now as if he’s going to get away with it.“
