Sources: Van de Ven opens door for Tottenham to complete two big January deals

Tottenham are willing to let Eric Dier leave the club – but only after they secure a stand-in for injured star Micky van de Ven, sources have told Football Insider.

Ange Postecoglou does not want to leave his side short in the January window with Spurs currently going well in the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (15 November) that Dier is likely to be seriously interested in leaving Tottenham for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in January.

It is believed Spurs will first seek a stand-in for Van de Ven, which will open the door to an exit for the England international.

If such a signing cannot be found, Postecoglou could be forced to keep Dier at the club while the Dutchman remains on the treatment table.

Van de Ven suffered a serious hamstring injury in the loss against Chelsea earlier this month and is expected to be out until the new year, opening the door to two big January deals – both incoming and outgoing.

He had forged a formidable partnership with World Cup winner Cristian Romero at the heart of the Tottenham defence since signing from Wolfsburg in the most recent summer window.

Meanwhile, Dier only made his first appearance of the season in the aftermath of Romero’s straight red card in the Chelsea loss – and started in the defeat against Wolves days later.

He was partnered by Ben Davies.

The long-serving 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season – meaning the January window is the last opportunity to cash in on his talents.

As well as Van de Ven, James Maddison and Richarlison are also expected to be sidelined through injury until the new year.
