Sources: Newcastle three-man January signing plan revealed, striker lined up
Newcastle are eyeing three additions in the January transfer window as their injury crisis worsens, sources have told Football Insider.
Sandro Tonali‘s suspension has left the Magpies short in midfield and a new arrival in that area is still believed to be the priority as the new year approaches.
But Football Insider revealed on Monday (13 November) that Newcastle are looking at all available options as they bid to improve the squad in January.
It is believed Newcastle chiefs and coaches fear their season could now unravel with their squad now down to the bare bones.
Therefore, additions at centre-back and in attack are now being explored – even with Financial Fair Play restrictions set to make any deals difficult to pull off.
It is believed the Magpies will primarily target loan signings in the mid-season window – but Saudi Pro League swoops now look to be off the table.
Premier League clubs are set to vote later this month to ban Newcastle from using their connections to land players from the Middle East on temporary deals.
Tonali was the biggest summer arrival for the Tynesiders but has since been banned for betting rule breaches to further squeeze the first-team squad at St James’ Park.
Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, Javier Manquillo, Matt Targett, Sven Botman, Elliot Anderson, Jacob Murphy and Dan Burn are also currently sidelined with injury problems.
