Sources: Ten Hag to block January Antony exit

Man United are not ready to give up on winger Antony by allowing him to leave in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old has been widely linked with an Old Trafford exit in the near future.

But a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Man United boss Erik ten Hag remains a “huge fan” of the Brazil international.

It is believed he is not ready to let Antony leave in January – just 18 months after spending a reported £85million to land him.

Fans have been extremely critical of the 23-year-old’s performances on social media and beyond – with his lack of attacking output coming into particularly sharp focus.

Some have even welcomed recent news of his potential exit.

The ex-Ajax man has made 12 appearances across all competitions this season but is yet to contribute a goal or assist.

In his first season at the club, the 2022-23 campaign, Antony managed eight goals and three assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.

It now appears his starting place is under threat from 19-year-old Alejandro Garnacho, who was part of the eleven that beat Luton 1-0 on Saturday (11 November).

But with Jadon Sancho’s exile continuing, Man United have a shortage of wide players – meaning the Red Devils are believed to be likely to persevere with Antony.

The 23-year-old Sao Paulo-born ace earns a reported £200,000-a-week on his contract at Old Trafford – which is set to run until June 2027.

Man United sit sixth in the Premier League following their Luton victory.

Ten Hag’s side are now five points adrift of fourth-place Tottenham in the race for Champions League qualification.
