Man City news: Pundit issues 'big' Kalvin Phillips claim after exit stance revealed

Paul Robinson has claimed Kalvin Phillips is facing “a big six months” at Man City.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 27-year-old’s game time has been “limited” but insisted he would not want to leave the Etihad.

Phillips has struggled since joined City from Leeds United last summer.

According to The Athletic‘s Sam Lee (2 February), an exit for the centre-midfielder could be on the cards later this year.

His contract at the Etihad runs until the end of June 2028.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Phillips situation at Man City, Robinson said: “I think he has a big six months ahead of him.

“He has not had a great time there so far. It has been stop-start. He has had his shoulder injury and the World Cup. It has been disrupted and he has not got going at all.

“His game time has been limited. He has not had many minutes on the pitch.

“If you look at his time there as a whole, it has not been good. He has a lot to prove. His Man City career has not got going yet.

“I would be very surprised if the player himself wanted to move on. But, perhaps the manager has made up his mind and wants to replace him. You never know.

“I do not think Phillips has had the opportunity to show everyone what he can do at that level yet though.”
