Pundit 'surprised' by Man City as Aymeric Laporte unrest revealed

Paul Robinson is “surprised” by Aymeric Laporte’s lack of game time for Man City this season.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested the 28-year-old has to accept being benched given his teammate’s form.

Laporte has started just one Premier League game in 2023.

Manuel Akanji, John Stones and Nathan Ake have been Pep Guardiola’s preferred defenders in recent weeks.

According to The Athletic‘s Sam Lee (2 February), Laporte has been unhappy with his game time this season.

However, City are not said to believe the player wants out of the club.

When asked by Football Insider if Laporte’s lack of minutes this season is somewhat of a surprise, Robinson said: “I have been surprised by his lack of game time.

“You only have to go back a couple of seasons and he was City’s best defender. Every time he has been injured, he has come back and made a huge difference to the team.

“I understand why he is frustrated by his lack of game time but that happens at top clubs. He is in a squad full of world-class players.

“City are playing well at the moment. Akanji has come in and done well. It is a difficult situation. I get that he doesn’t like it but if the team is playing well you have to get on with it.”

In other news, a pundit cannot believe what people are saying about Kevin De Bruyne amid a ‘big’ Man City claim.
