Robinson 'worried' for Everton after Andre Ayew news - 'what is going on?'

Paul Robinson is “worried” about Everton after Andrew Ayew chose Nottingham Forest over a move to Goodison Park.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one expected the Toffees to secure signings after the sale of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United.

On Thursday (2 February), Nottingham Forest confirmed the signing of Andre Ayew on a short-term deal.

Everton were also interested in the former West Ham and Swansea striker.

Sean Dyche’s side were looking to bolster their attack having failed to do so in the January window.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Ayew’s move, Robinson said: “It is worrying when you are missing out on a player like Ayew to Nottingham Forest – a direct relegation rival.

“I can only think that it was for financial reasons. The amount of players Forest have got, I cannot imagine he will play every week. Everton needed Ayew. He would more than likely have played because they are in desperate need of a striker.

“The worrying thing for Everton is the lack of bodies they have been able to get through the door during the window. I know they are treading a fine line with Financial Fair Play but you would have liked to have though they’d get some bodies through the door after the Anthony Gordon sale. You have to question what is going on.

“One thing I do know is that Sean will get the best out of the players there. He is not going to sign a player for the sake of signing a player. He will believe he can get Everton out of trouble with the players that are already in the building.”

In other news, a pundit fears for Sean Dyche as he’s ‘walking into a mess’ at Everton.
