Robinson stunned by Man City after 'unbelievable' Joao Cancelo details emerge - 'wow, really?'
Paul Robinson cannot believe Man City defender Joao Cancelo is set to join Bayern Munich.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said there has clearly been an incident behind the scenes at the Etihad.
Cancelo has been a bit-part player for City since the World Cup.
As reported by Sky Sports (30 January), the Portugal international is set to join Bayern Munich on loan.
The Bundesliga champions will have the option to sign the right-back on a permanent deal for £61.5million.
According to the Daily Mail‘s Mike Keegan (30 January), Cancelo had a furious training ground bust-up with Pep Guardiola last week.
When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the news, Robinson said: “Unbelievable.
“When I heard it I was like, ‘Wow, really?’
“Clearly something has gone on behind the scenes. There is reports of a training ground bust-up and that is one of the only logical explanations as to why they would let him leave on loan. Bayern Munich have an option to sign him as well!
“Something has happened behind the scenes. We are only privy to the information that we read.
“I think the relationship with Guardiola must have reached breaking point. The manager has huge power and control at that club and if anyone goes against him they are done.
“Cancelo has barely started since the World Cup. There was clearly a strain on the relationship. Nobody is bigger than the club though.”
