Tottenham expert issues ‘big’ transfer verdict after journalist’s takeover update

Paul Robinson has claimed investment from Qatari Sports Investment could be about to invest in Tottenham at “a good time.”

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said it “could have a big impact” on the club’s ability to compete in the transfer market.

According to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs (24 January), QSI are directly engaged in talks with Spurs over acquiring a stake in the club.

QSI chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi is said to have met with Daniel Levy for an exploratory chat on minority investment.

Tottenham are currently owned by Joe Lewis’ ENIC Group.

When asked by Football Insider if QSI investment would be welcomed in north London, Robinson said: “It could have a big impact on that.

“Investment is needed into the squad. [Antonio] Conte has said that from day one.

“The level of funds needed for that investment is perhaps not available at the moment. Richarlison was the biggest signing of recent times.

“You have to be careful with what you spent though. Spurs have to toe the Financial Fair Play line.

“Chelsea are throwing hundreds of million of pounds at recruitment at the moment. It is a bit of a scattergun approach but that will not be sustainable for the next three windows because of Financial Fair Play.

“Spurs need better players and if there is the chance to bring on new investors, now would be a good time.”
