Mauricio Pochettino backed to make sensational Tottenham return after 'crazy' update - expert

Paul Robinson has backed Mauricio Pochettino to make a sensational return to Tottenham if Antonio Conte leaves.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said Pochettino, 50, has “unfinished business” in north London.

Conte is under pressure at Spurs and his contract expires at the end of June.

On 16 January, the Daily Mail‘s Sami Mokbel named Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel as potential replacements for the Italian manager.

Pochettino is out of work having left Paris Saint-Germain last July.

When asked by Football Insider if Pochettino’s return would be a welcome one, Robinson said: “It is crazy to think that he could come back.

“I normally say you should never go back but I think Pochettino has unfinished business at Spurs, I really do.

“He was not backed when he should have been. Spurs needed to spent the summer after the Champions League final. There should have been heavy investment into the squad that summer.

“They have regressed since that season. It has taken them a long time to look anything like Champions League challengers again. Conte has done that.

“Should Conte leave this season, you question where the club go. Pochettino is available and he has been linked with many top jobs.

“There is unfinished business there. Yes, his only trophies have come at PSG but he is proven at the top level.”

In other news, a source has revealed a Tottenham star is in talks to join a new club as permanent move possible.
