West Ham could sign 'like-for-like replacement' for Declan Rice after update - Robinson

Paul Robinson has claimed Man United midfielder Scott McTominay would be a “like-for-like replacement” for Declan Rice at West Ham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested McTominay will look to exit Old Trafford this year in search of regular game time.

According to talkSPORT‘s Alex Crook (25 January), United are open to selling McTominay and Harry Maguire.

West Ham are said to be interested in both players as David Moyes looks to bolster his squad with British talent.

McTominay has found game time difficult to come by since Casemiro joined United.

His contract at Old Trafford runs until the end of June 2025.

When asked by Football Insider if McTominay could replace Rice at the London Stadium, Robinson said: “I could see that.

“McTominay is a player who fits the defensive midfield role that Rice is currently playing in excellently well.

“If he is not going to be getting regular game time at Man United, at his age, he needs to leave. He will want to be playing week in, week out.

“I suspect game time will only be harder to come by once Erik ten Hag brings a few more signings in as well.

“If Rice was to leave West Ham, McTominay could help to fill that void. It would almost be a like-for-like replacement. That is one that I could see happening. It would make sense for all parties concerned.”
