Pundit issues 'massive' Cody Gakpo claim after Liverpool injury news

Paul Robinson has claimed Diogo Jota’s return from injury will be “massive” for Liverpool and will take the pressure off Cody Gakpo.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said injuries to Jota, Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz have cost the Reds in the first half of the season.

Jota has been sidelined since the 1-0 win over Manchester City on 16 October with a calf injury.

According to the Liverpool Echo, via Anfield Watch (20 January), the Portugal international is working on his own individually-tailored programme after rehabilitation sessions in Dubai last month.

The forward is expected to return to action for Jurgen Klopp’s side in February.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the latest injury news, Robinson said: “Gakpo has not been given much time to settle in.

“He has been thrown into the deep end.

“It will be massive to have Jota back. That will take the pressure off Gakpo and Harvey Elliott as well.

“Jota was excellent last season and I’m sure Klopp is desperate to get him back because he doesn’t have many options right now.

“To have Firmino, Jota and Diaz out at the same time is far from ideal. Liverpool have had far too many injury problems. Klopp has had to put square pegs in round holes too often this season. It has cost them.

“The sooner Jota comes back the better really.”

In other news, a pundit has suggested the real reason Naby Keita is quitting Liverpool after source’s reveal.
