Tottenham told to agree Thomas Tuchel deal after BBC update - 'huge', says expert

Paul Robinson has claimed Tottenham should target Thomas Tuchel instead of Maurizio Sarri should Antonio Conte leave the club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said Tuchel, 49, is “one of the best manager’s in the world” and is “a proven winner.”

Conte is under pressure at Spurs and his contract expires at the end of the season.

According to Italian outlet Il Messaggero, via BBC (24 January), Tottenham have identified Sarri as a potential replacement for Conte.

Sarri is currently the manager of Lazio and has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.

When asked by Football Insider if the ex-Chelsea manager would be a welcome appointment to Spurs should the board decide to part ways with Conte, Robinson said: “I’d prefer for Thomas Tuchel to come in.

“I think he would do a brilliant job.

“I cannot see him being well received by the Spurs fans though. Spurs and Chelsea are rivals and that connection makes it harder, even though Conte and [Jose] Mourinho have crossed that bridge before if you like.

“It could cause a huge divide with the Spurs fans. It would not be as bad as Rafa Benitez at Everton though. If Tuchel came in and started winning games his Chelsea connection would quickly be forgotten.

“Tuchel is a proven winner. For me, he is one of the best managers in the world.”

In other news, an expert has cited Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah as big-money Tottenham talks expected very soon.
