Revealed: De Zerbi expected to agree deal after Man United source's reveal

Man United manager target Roberto De Zerbi is likely to pledge his future to Brighton as they prepare to offer him a new contract at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources told Football Insider last month (3 November) that the Red Devils had made the Italian a top target with incoming owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe planning to sack Erik ten Hag and make him his successor.

De Zerbi, 44, is being monitored by several elite European clubs, including United, but a well-placed source has told Football Insider he has no immediate plans to leave Brighton.

The Italian’s current deal is set to expire in June 2026.

However, he is happy at the south coast club and is likely to pen a new contract on improved terms to extend his stay at the Amex Stadium.

He has been linked with United as well as Man City, Real Madrid – and clubs from his native Italy.

Brighton are ready to offer the ex-Sassuolo man a new deal following his remarkable work since succeeding Graham Potter who departed for Chelsea in September 2022.

He has been hailed for his possession-based style of play and press-resistant system that has brought great success to the Seagulls.

The 44-year-old guided the Seagulls to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season, securing them European football for the first time in their history.

Brighton confirmed their passage to the knockout rounds of the Europa League with a 1-0 victory over AEK Athens on Thursday (30 November) in a group also featuring Dutch giants Ajax and Ligue 1 side Marseille.

Meanwhile, Man United’s 3-3 draw against Galatasaray on Wednesday (29 November) leaves them on the brink of elimination from the Champions League and piles pressure on manager Ten Hag.

Brighton sit eighth in the Premier League after their 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest last time out, while Man United’s 3-0 win against Everton last week leaves them sixth.
