Everton told to forget Marcelo Bielsa and appoint Englishman after source's talks reveal - pundit

Paul Robinson has told Everton to steer clear of Marcelo Bielsa and instead appoint Sean Dyche as their new manager.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested it would be a risk to appoint Bielsa given what he demands from his players.

The Toffees are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Frank Lampard on Monday (23 January).

According to Sky Sports (24 January), Bielsa is the club’s first-choice to succeed Lampard.

However, sources have told Football Insider (25 January) that Bielsa has rejected an approach from Everton.

Robinson has urged the under-fire board to instead appoint Englishman Sean Dyche.

“I think it would be a big ask for Bielsa to go in and turn Everton around,” he told Football Insider.

“He demands so much from his players. He demands things that no other managers do. There is a certain level of fitness and application needed to play under Bielsa. He needs time to work with players. There is a risk of the players being warn out after three weeks because Bielsa has worked them so hard in training.

“Look at what he did at Leeds when he signed players. He did not put them into the first-team until they have trained for at least four weeks. If he has a full new team it may take time.

“Do Everton have time? I’m not sure so that needs to be taken into consideration.

“If it is a long-term project there is nobody better than Bielsa. If you want an immediate impact look no further than Sean Dyche.”
