Mohamed Salah cited as Tottenham talks expected imminently - expert

Paul Robinson has claimed Tottenham should hand Harry Kane a new contract on par with Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said Kane, 29, “has to be up there with the best in the Premier League” in terms of wages.

Kane has 18 months left on his contract in north London.

Bayern Munich and Man United are widely reported to be interested in signing the England captain in the summer.

However, according to the Evening Standard (24 January), Kane is open to signing a new deal with Spurs and expects to enter talks in the coming months.

When asked by Football Insider if Spurs should make Kane one of if not the best player in England, Robinson said: “100 per cent.

“He has to be up there with Salah. He has to be up there with the best in the Premier League.

“Let’s be honest, he has single-handedly carried that team for five or six years now. The amount of goals he has scored in an under-performing team has been nothing short of incredible.

“His numbers are the best around yet the team has won nothing. You can only imagine how many goals he would have scored in Man City’s team over the past few years because they create many more opportunities.

“Kane’s importance cannot be underestimated. He should be one of the top earners in the Premier League.”
