Expert suggests the real reason Tottenham have pulled off 'massive' Arnaut Danjuma deal

Paul Robinson has claimed Tottenham have hijacked Everton’s move for Arnaut Danjuma with one eye on the Champions League.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested the 25-year-old is being signed as a squad player.

Everton looked to have secured a deal for Danjuma on Monday (23 January) after reaching an agreement with him and medical tests completed at the weekend.

However, Football Insider broke the news at lunchtime on Tuesday (24 January) that Spurs have hijacked the transfer with a stunning eleventh-hour swoop.

Danjuma underwent a medical at the London club’s headquarters on Tuesday night and agreed the terms of a loan deal until the end of the season.

When asked by Football Insider if Danjuma will be a welcome addition to Spurs, Robinson said: “There is other areas of the team that need strengthening before Danjuma comes in.

“He is a top-quality player. He has showed his quality at Villarreal and Bournemouth.

“As much as he’s an excellent talent, I would not say he is massively needed. He would be vying for a place with [Dejan] Kulusevski, Son [Heung-min] and Richarlison.

“Perhaps Spurs have spotted an opportunity to get a top player for a very good price. It might be a signing with one eye on the Champions League starting again in January. The price of the deal must be right.

“I’d like to see other areas in the squad addressed as well. I want to see a right wing-back and a centre-half come in before the window shuts.”
