Tottenham expert 'really concerned' for Dane Scarlett after 'bizarre' development

Tottenham youngster Dane Scarlett’s development may be hampered by spending the second half of the season on loan at Portsmouth.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Scarlett, 18, joined Portsmouth on loan from Tottenham in the summer and has made 23 appearances for the club with 16 of those being starts.

However, the striker has now only started one of Pompey’s last nine games, a period in which manager Danny Cowley was replaced by John Mousinho.

Wenham is now concerned about Scarlett’s development.

“I’m really concerned about Dane Scarlett,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Since this new manager came in he has barely played. I started making concerns about it on Twitter and tagged Portsmouth accounts.

“I was saying we should recall him then he started one game but then he was right back out of the team again.

“So I am concerned that he is not going to be playing. I think 20 of the other clubs in League One would have him as a starter.

“So I would have been happy for him to move to literally any other club in January. The Cowley brothers started so well with Dane, even when Portsmouth would lose there would be a lot of praise for him.

“So for them not to be there is very worrying. I didn’t see a single Portsmouth fan who was in favour of sacking the manager as well.

“So that’s another bizarre facet to this story.”
