Sources: Arne Slot twist as rival PL club swoop for Leeds United target with talks set for today

Leeds United will need to make a multi-million-pound compensation payment to Feyenoord to agree a deal for Arne Slot, sources have told Football Insider.

The Yorkshire giants are working on luring the 44-year-old Dutchman and were locked in talks on Thursday (9 February) with the manager’s camp.

Slot is open to taking on the Leeds job and heading to the Premier League despite Feyenoord being well-placed to win the Dutch Eredivisie title.

Leeds have been given encouragement that a deal is possible but they will also need to prise Slot from his contract with the Dutch league leaders.

He signed an improved agreement last summer that ties him to Feyenoord until the summer of 2025.

It means Leeds would have to pay compensation to the club as well as agree a highly lucrative contract with Slot himself to get what is a complicated deal over the line.

Intriguingly, there is also interest from other clubs in luring Slot, including from what is believed to be another Premier League club.

Leeds will hold further talks on Friday (10 February), mindful of the need to get a deal done quickly or face the prospect of losing out on another top target.

Carlos Corberan was the first choice of the Whites’ sporting director Victor Orta – but sources told Football Insider on 8 February that he decided to sign a new West Brom deal after only being offered an 18-month contract at Elland Road.

Rayo Vallecano have also reportedly blocked a Leeds United approach for head coach Andoni Iraola.

Jesse Marsch was sacked by the Whites on Monday (6 February) after less than 12 months in the hot seat at Elland Road.

He had failed to win in the Premier League since the mid-season World Cup break despite transfer spending reaching a reported £130million following a January splurge.
