Sources: Everton agree deal with Lee Sargeson as he heads in from Brighton

Everton have agreed a deal to appoint Lee Sargeson in a senior recruitment role, sources have told Football Insider.

The talent spotter is heading to the Merseyside club from Brighton to become Everton’s manager of scouting operations with a remit to improve their transfer set-up.

Everton are yet to announce the appointment but it is believed there is a full agreement in place between Sargeson and the club.

Sargeson will join a team at Goodison headed by Kevin Thelwell, who took over in February of last year as Everton director of football.

His arrival comes at a time of great change at the Merseysiders, who have just appointed Sean Dyche as their new manager and are in talks over a sale or partial sell-off.

It is also on the back of a chaotic January window in which Everton lost out on multiple top attacking targets despite selling prize asset Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United.

Tottenham hijacked the deal they had in place for Arnaut Danjuma at the eleventh hour, and talks with up to 10 other forwards also collapsed for various reasons.

Sargeson has an impressive CV that includes lengthy recruitment stints at Brighton, where he spent nearly six years, Aston Vill and Bolton Wanderers.

His move from Brighton continues the talent drain from the south coast club.

Seven members of their staff quit to join Chelsea at the end of last year, led by manager Graham Potter, his assistant Billy Reid, coaches Bjorn Hamberg and Bruno Saltor, goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts, player recruiter Kyle Macaulay and global transfer chief Paul Winstanley.
