Pundit backs Newcastle United to make 'really attractive' Declan Rice offer after source's update
Newcastle United have been backed to enter the race for Declan Rice this summer.
That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
On 4 February, sources told Football Insider that Newcastle are expected to be in the running to sign Rice if they finish the season in the top four.
The Irons star man, 24, is on the wish list of all the Premier League big hitters and there is set to be an extended battle to lure him over the coming months.
Wenham insists Rice would be the perfect signing for Eddie Howe’s side.
“Newcastle could do with a midfielder and Rice is the one everyone wants,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He’s been really heavily linked to Chelsea but will he go there if they aren’t in Europe next season? It’s a tough one.
“Newcastle need Bruno Guimaraes in there and they don’t seem to win games without him. He also does his best work higher up the pitch.
“So if Newcastle were to sign Rice then he can sit back and protect the defence while Guimaraes does whathe does going forward.
“If they are in the Champions League next season then you have to say Newcastle will be in the running to get him.
“I think it is more likely he will go elsewhere but we know they could make a really attractive offer to Rice, maybe more attractive than the other options.
“It wouldn’t surprise me to see Newcastle go for Rice but I think they will have a hard time convincing him to join.”
