Sources: Celtic stance on Postecoglou agreeing Leeds United deal revealed

Celtic are confident Ange Postecoglou will not quit mid-season to join Leeds United or any other Premier League club, sources have told Football Insider.

The Australian has been linked with the newly-vacant Leeds post following Monday’s sacking of Jesse Marsch.

But Celtic do not expect to lose Postecoglou at this stage of the season in the same way that Brendan Rodgers up and left for Leicester City mid-campaign.

Football Insider revealed on Monday that West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is Leeds’ number one target to take over from Marsch and an approach is expected.

Postecoglou is on a rolling one-year contract at Celtic and is well on course to steering the club to a second consecutive title after maintaining their nine-point lead at the weekend.

The Glasgow giants are keen to tie their manager down to a longer-team deal that could potential include a release clause.

The Australian became manager of the Parkhead club in June 2021 from J-League side Yokohoma F. Marinos.

The decision which was initially questioned by much of the fanbase but after returning the Glasgow giants to the top of the league in his first season in charge, they now view him as irreplaceable.

Speaking on his appointment, Postecoglou said he has been given “one of the greatest honours in football” and said he will “cherish” the opportunity to lead the Hoops into the future.

Of the 63 Premiership games he has been in charge of, he has lost just six and most recently oversaw a 4-1 defeat over St Johnstone on Sunday (5 February).
